Hymn of the Fallen Third

from The Temple Hymnal by The Unseen Temple

/

about

Julian Camacho has carried out the most important study of Temple symbolism. His reading of the Fallen Third is as follows:
Acre believed that the lower triangle represented the Earth and its associated elements while the upper triangle represented the love, spiritual potential and intelligence of mankind that had ‘fallen’ and was in need of ‘raising up’ through the study of key texts and a ritualistic lifestyle. Acre admitted to a bemused Sam Carter that the triangular symbols originated in the Orphic Theogony’s concept of Universal Good, Universal Soul and Universal Mind.
It was Acre’s hope that once his teachings and patterns of ritual had been adopted by all cultures the universal flag of mankind would be two separated triangles, signifying the spiritual, intellectual and humanitarian improvement that had taken place.
It has also been suggested by Juliette Egre that the Fallen Third started out as a representation of death, in the form of an hourglass. Egre asserts that as this concept was replaced by the raven in Acre’s symbolic canon the idea of the Fallen Third was developed through a reading of the afore-mentioned Orphic Theogony.

lyrics

Three is the number
That we’re composed of
Three is the number
Man cannot dispose of

Open your eyes to the Fallen Third
First step on the way – know that he is The Word

Low is the position
In which man is living
Low is the condition
At birth we are given

Open your eyes to the Fallen Third
First step on the way – know that he is The Word
